REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (popularly as Ahok) has asked Joko "Jokowi" Widodo not to resign as Jakarta Governor despite having been nominated as presidential candidate by Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P).

"I have told him not to resign as governor of Jakarta during the period of legislative election campaigns, but there has been no response from him," Ahok remarked at the Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He noted that although Jokowi did not resign as governor of Jakarta, it would not affect his space motion in conducting the election campaigns this year.

"In my opinion, there is no need for Jokowi to resign now, as it is better to wait until he is really elected and appointed as the president of Indonesia," Ahok explained.

Ahok stated that Jokowi did not leave his main job as the governor despite his campaign had also been started.

"He continues to monitor all tasks related to the Regional Government Working Unit (SKPD) and participates in the 2014 Revised Regional Government Budget (APBD-P) discussions,"Ahok said then added that he believed Jokowi's nomination for presidential candidate would not hamper his main duty as governor of Jakarta.
