REPUBLIKA.CO.ID,JAKARTA - Political analyst of Political Communication Institute, Heri Budianto said that Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) had failed to boost popularity of Joko Widodo (known as Jokowi) as "magnet" to draw votes general election on April 9.
"PDIP failed to promote Jokowi's figure," Budianto said on Friday, then added that the promotion was also not maximal.
Budianto said that Jokowi had the ability to attract public and some polling described him as an idol and got media attention. But, PDIP did not give good feedback to the public input.
PDIP should learn from other parties including Gerindra which successfully promoted Prabowo Subianto or National Awakening Party (PKB), which introduced Rhoma Irama and Mahfud MD.
One of politician from PDIP, Ganjar Pranowo, admitted the failure.
"We were not competitive in the media so Jokowi's effect was unnoticeable," he said recently.
PDIP won 19.2 percent of votes in general election, followed by Golkar party (14.7 percent), Gerindra party (11.8 percent) and Democratic party (9.6 percent).
