REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANTUL -- Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Indroyono Soesilo said the government will apply science and technology to improve the welfare of the people in thousand villages across the country.
"It is my first visit to a village that has applied science and technology. The Minister of Research and Technology said the government will build 1,000 villages that will apply science and technology," Indroyono Soesilo said here on Friday.
Poncosari village, located along Pandansimo Baru coast, is a hybrid energy development area and has solar panels. Local communities utilize this energy to make blocks of ice.
"So, the government will build 1,000 villages that will apply science and technology over the next five years," he added.
The government will also apply science and technology in some subdistricts along the border region to improve the welfare of communities there.
"It will drive local economies and will fulfill the needs of communities," he stated.
According to him, technology as applied in Poncosari should be developed to meet needs such as clothing, food, and shelter.
Furthermore, the government will build 100 science-techno parks across 500 districts or cities in Indonesia.
"The people, the government, and scientists should strive together to implement the plan for science-techno parks," he added.
