REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANILA -- President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo expressed confidence that in the near future, the conflict between the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and the National Police (Polri) will end soon.
"I am not hostage to the past, so it can be decided," the Indonesian president stated during a gathering with the Indonesian community at the Indonesian Embassy building, in Manila, on Monday (9/2).
However, he admitted that it would take time to solve the KPK-Polri conflict as it was related to politics and law, and hence, if it was directly decided, the risk would be too great.
"There are many things that must be addressed, but God Willing, the conflict between the KPK and Polri will end this week; my calculation is this week," President Jokowi affirmed.
The KPK is currently handling an alleged corruption case involving Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, whom the anti-graft body has named as a suspect.
The commission named him a suspect after President Jokowi nominated him as the sole candidate for the post of national police chief.
Moreover, the Crime Investigation Department (Bareskrim) of the National Police Headquarters has arrested KPK Deputy Chairman Bambang Widjojanto.
Bareskrim named Widjojanto as a suspect in a 2010 regional election dispute case, wherein he has been accused of asking a witness to give a false testimony at the Constitutional Court during a session on the dispute in Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan, when he was still a lawyer.
