REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MEULABOH -- Floods have isolated three of the 12 sub-districts being inundated in West Aceh District, Aceh Province, since Saturday.
Floods reaching a height of between one and two meters, hampers efforts to send relief hit to the affected areas, Jopi D Saputra, spokesman of the West Aceh District administration, said here, Sunday.
Members of the search and rescue team failed to reach East Woyla and West Woyla Sub-districts due to the flooding, he said.
Incessant heavy rains have triggered rivers to overflow in West Aceh since Thursday (Dec. 10), according to him.
The local authorities with the assistance of military and police personnel have helped evacuate a number of flood victims.
Relief aid among other things comprising 34 tons of rice were distributed in the sub-districts of Pantee Ceuremen, Panton Reu, Arongan, Samatiga, Bubon, Johan Pahlawan and Meurebo.
A total of 14,146 families comprising 49,605 people have been affected by the floods in the 12 sub-districts.
The flooding also triggered landslides in Sungai Mas Sub-district and abrasion in Pantee Ceuremen.
