Batam still becomes favorite place for international narcotic mafias

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM -- International drug networks still utilized International Port of Batam Centre to smuggle methamphetamine from Malaysia to Indonesia.

"Officers at International Port of Batam Centre continues to anticipate the drugs not to enter Indonesia," said Customs and Excise officers of Batam, Zulkarnain, in BNN Office of Riau Islands, Monday (11/1).

Due to efforts of Customs and Excise officers of Batam, Ditpam BP Batam in Batam Centre International Port from November 2015 until December 2015, was foiled three smuggling of methamphetamine from Malaysia. One smuggler who had passed the examination at International Port of Batam Centre was finally also successfully secured in Hang Nadim International Airport on the same day.

"We obtained the information in the ports. Finally, our officers with members of the BNN could catch him," he added.

Evidence secured from four cases was amounted to 1,185 kilograms of methamphetamine. It was consisting of 233 grams of the arrest on 24th November 2015, and 517 grams of the arrest on 4th December.

The third case occurred on 11th December, when officers in Batam Centre International Port arrested a woman named EK who just arrived from Malaysia and brought 85.86 grams of methamphetamine. Another case occurred on the same day, a suspect was arrested in Hang Nadim International Airport with 349 grams of methamphetamine.
