REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA - Ex-village chief of Selok Awar-Awar, Pasirian, Lumajang, East Java, Hariyono, was indicted on multiple charges in a hearing with the alleged murder of environmental activist Salim Kancil in Surabaya District Court on Thursday (18/2).
In that trial, Prosecutor Naimullah of Lumajang State said the accused along with Mat Dasir as the head of a team of 12 deliberately been planning to carry out beatings against Salim Kancil and Tosan.
"Both defendants deliberately planning the persecution, causing loss of lives and injured people, it were carried out in a gang on a Saturday morning of 26 September 2015 in the village of Selok Awar-awar, Lumajang," he said when reading the indictment in the District Court of Surabaya.
The actions of the two defendants charged under Article 340 and 338 Penal Code in the case of the murder of Salim Kancil. "Both defendants are also charged under Article 170 of the Criminal Code," he said.
According to him, both accused of planning the murder, because they considers Salim Kancil and Tosan do not like the presence of sand mining in Selok Awar-awar managed by Hariyono as the local village chief.
Finally, Hariyono hold a meeting with a team of 12 led by Mat Dasir to plan the action. In these beatings, Salim Kancil died and Tosan injured.

After the reading of the indictment, hearings chaired by Jihad Komaruddin was postponed on Thursday (25/2) with the agenda to hear witness testimony.
"Because of the defendant's legal counsel did not file an exception, then next week agenda will be to instantly hear witness testimony from the Prosecution," he said.
The case of the murder of Salim Kancil and persecution of Tosan occurred on Saturday morning, September 26, 2015.
