Indonesia, UN commemorate 71st UN day

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with the United Nations (UN), observed the UN Day to commemorate the 71st United Nations Day. "The commemoration is a moment to raise public awareness about the importance of the partnership between Indonesia and the United Nations, especially in achieving the Agenda 2030 and the 17 sustainable development goals (DG)," Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said here on Monday.

The minister was speaking at the opening of a seminar on "Indonesia-United Nations Collaborative Action: Strengthening Stakeholder Partnership for Sustainable Development." Retno said the UN Day, observed every October 24, is mean to inform the people of the various achievements of the United Nations. "The UN Day this year accentuates the collaboration between Indonesia and the United Nations which is expected to become even stronger, primarily in achieving the sustainable development goals by 2030," she stated.

The UN Day celebrations were marked by an international seminar, an art exhibition and visual campaigns. The art exhibition, named "Art with Purpose," will open on October 24 and continue till October 30. It will feature 22 Indonesian artists' works, such as paintings, photos, sculptures, videos and art installations, in line with the UN's role in the world.

UN Resident Coordinator in Indonesia Douglas Broderick appreciated Indonesia's commitment to realize Agenda 2030. The UN, he added, is ready to cooperate further with Indonesia in order to ensure that it emerges as one among the global leaders for implementation of Sustainable Development Goals. "The SDGs' initiative in Indonesia includes global, national, regional and individual leadership," Broderick noted.
