REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – An Indonesian political observer Indra J. Piliang said there was something silly in the accusation of coup plot to some people involved in 313 rally by the police. 

He said so far the police got positive appreciation from the Indonesian people in terms of its effort to take an action in fighting radical movements and terrorism in the country. But, it seemed to be strange when the institution accused 313 rally as part of coup plot. 

Indra said the accusation would make Indonesian people think that the police had confronted its own achievement in combating radicalism and terrorism. “Let’s say they have potential to cripple terrorists in their weakest condition. But now there is a coup plot? It means that what they said to be ‘successful’ in combating terrorism was not true. For me, it is silly,” said him when contacted by Republika.co.id on Wednesday (April 5).

He added that the definition of coup was not appropriate to the accusation when it was defined as an occupation of strategic state institutions. The occupation should be conducted in the Presidential Palace so it could be said as a coup. 

“If it is conducted in the regions, what kind of plot it is? It is not appropriate,” he said. 

Indra explained one of common pattern of coup plot was attempt of murder of politician. It happened in the era of sixth Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). SBY said he was targeted by terrorist in a visit to Kalimantan. 

"I think it is easy to reflect for those who understand the intelligent work. It is like a joke. And for me, not (a coup) so far,” he said.
