REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Food price hikes have contributed to the country's inflation of 0.39 percent in May, the Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS) said.
"Increase was recorded in the prices of all consumer goods," BPS chief Suhariyanto said here on Friday.
The inflation in May brought the country's total inflation to 1.67 percent in the first five months of the year and year-on-year, inflation in May was 4.33 percent.
Suhariyanto said food prices rose ahead of the Islamic fasting month in the fourth week of May, adding among the food products included garlic, eggs, rice, beef and red chili.
"The price of garlic, however, began to decline in the fourth week of May , but on the average the price of that commodity still contributed to the inflation," he said.
