REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) listed Subak Bali as one of World Cultural Heritage. “The world is proud of Indonesia,” the Vice Minister of Education and Culture, Windu Nurhayati, said on Sunday as cited on www.setkab.co.id.
She said Indonesia needed 12 years to struggle for the admission until it was officially listed on June 20 in St Pittsburg, Russia.
“The decision is on June 20. But this Bali Culture Landscape has been recommended to UNESCO long before,” she added.
Subak is terraced field culture based on Tri Hita Karana, a life guidance of Balinese. This culture tells people to live harmoniously with God, other people, and nature.
Subak is especially used in irrigation, in which each inhabitant has duty to manage the water, maintain and repair irrigation, exterminate the pest, innovate the agriculture, and conduct religious ceremony.
