REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has inaugurated Sultan Thaha International Airport, Jambi Province.

The airport expected to be a successful pilot project for the development of small airports by the government.

President Jokowi on his visit to Jambi on Thursday (21/7) morning, reviewed panel and scale model of Sultan Thaha Airport. Then, the president was inaugurated the Sultan Thaha Airport Terminal in the parking lot of the airport.

The new Sultan Thaha International Airport was a pilot project for the development of other small airports by the government. The airport projects include overlay runway 10 centimeters (cm) with a terminal area of 35,000 m2 and 26,500 m2 of parking area with a capacity of 436 cars and 415 motorcycles.

The development of Passenger Terminal and Parking facility of new Sultan Thaha Airport as much as Rp 126 billion, Rp 110 billion for apron construction, tower construction and operation of buildings Rp 16 billion, and the construction of basic facilities and other a total of Rp 67 billion.

Previously Director of State-owned airport operator Angkasa Pura II (AP II) Budi Karya Sumadi has targeted could be 70 flights per day, at the end of this year.

"Currently, 46 aircraft movements, 23 take off, 23 landing. My target Sultan Thaha Airport should be 70 (movements)," Budi said.

He explained that the new Sultan Thaha became the pilot project developing small airports managed by AP. The service of Sultan Thaha Airport will strengthen Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, Cengkareng, Banten.
