REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Prabowo Subianto encourages that all programs and activities in the Ministry/Institutions (K/L) have significant contributions to the country, synergize with each other. There are many important ideas of this Prabowo government.

While chairing the inaugural cabinet session, the President again alluded to the Food and Energy Self-sufficiency targets. In his opinion, it was something that could not be avoided. The causes can be from internal and foreign.

“I said in my speech in front of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR) on the day of my inauguration that food self-sufficiency is a basic priority, because the global situation of a major war could break out at any moment. We must guarantee our ability to feed our own people, absolute energy self-sufficiency,” Prabowo said at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (23/10/2024).

In essence, he does not want Indonesia to depend on the situation outside. In other parts of the world, there is a conflict. It is too risky if the country continues to rely on imports to meet its food needs and also on the energy sector.

At the same time, the President considers that internally he has sufficient capital. Indonesia, he insists, has abundant natural resources. It has to be optimized.

“We are grateful that we have such a huge natural resource, we must now not hesitate to make the most of it,” Prabowo said.

He also alluded to downstream. According to the President, downstream is the key to the prosperity of the people. He won't stop at rhetoric.

Prabowo called on a number of relevant ministries to act immediately. There is the Ministry of Investment and Underwriting/Head of the Capital Investment Coordination Agency (BKPM), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), also the Ministry of VAT/Bappenas.

“With several other ministers, assisted by the Minister of Economy and the Chairman of the National Economic Council, I request an immediate inventory of important projects in our downstream program,” the President said.

Prabowo said there are 26 key and vital commodities that should be eliminated in the near future. He instructed the relevant ministries to arrange the matter immediately.
