REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG - Muslim villagers in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) was very happy as Team of Alquran Road Trip Waqf Board (BWA) arrived. The team would give 2,500 copies of the Islamic holy book, Quran, to some villages. 

BWA team visited the village for three days this mid-June. The villagers, young and old, men and women, all seemed enthusiastic.

"Thanks God, this is the first time we get so many copies of Quran," said Legono, Head of Madu Island of NTT.

Legono said he was happy as his village received 500 copies of Quran. In the past, Madu Island receive five copies of Quran during campaign season. That means they only get fove copies every five years.

Islam was introduced to Madu Island from Islamic Kingdom of Bima in Makassar. The Muslims usually live in coastal areas while most non-Muslims live in mountainous areas.

Yet, Madu Island is not the only place visited by BWA. As part of the safari, they also visited Kupang, Larantuka, and Tanah Merah in Adonara Island.

At Tanah Merah port, BWA used a truck to reach seven villages. The road was full of holes, steep, and rocky. Well, it was not easy to reach those places.
