REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PADANG -- President Joko Widodo contributed a cow weighing around one ton to be sacrificed on the occasion of Eid Al-Adha in West Sumatra.
"The sacrificial animal from the President will be handed over by acting governor Ali Asmar to the Eid Al-Adha committee of the West Sumatra grand mosque," head of information of the public relations bureau of the West Sumatra provincial administration, Zardi Syahrir, said here on Wednesday.
He said the cow would be slaughtered along with other cows at the West Sumatra grand mosque compound on Thursday at around 10am after Eid Al-Adha prayers.
The head of the Regional Representatives' Council, Irman Gusman, also sent a cow to be sacrificed in the province.
"The cow from Irman Gusman weighs around 500 kilograms," he said.
Zardi said this was the first time an Indonesian president contributed a sacrificial animal to West Sumatra.
"To my knowledge, this is the first ever sacrificial animal received from the president," he said.
The head of the social affairs bureau of the West Sumatra provincial administration, Syahril B, said the yard of the governor's office will be the central place where the Eid Al-Adha prayers in West Sumatra will be conducted.
In case the weather turns bad, the committee has prepared an alternative location for the prayer event, he said.
