REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The first stage of New Priok Port construction will be conducted in July 2012 after the documents are agreed. The agreement is predictably released in May 20.
Indonesian Port Corporation (IPC) submitted the documents to build and operate New Priok Port on April 20, 2012 and it has received the copy of Presidential Regulation Number 36/2012 signed by the President on April 5.
“We have to complete the documents to start the project. At least it was released a month before last Friday (April 20 -Ed),” the IPC President Director, Richard Joost Lino, said on Monday.
The construction of the ground breaking will mark the first stage. The first stage, designed to have 20-meter depth and 300-meter two-way traffic, will include the construction of three terminal for container and two fuel berths.
The model which met the international standard, Lino said, was to speed up the arrival and departure. With 195 hectare area for the first stage, the length of the pier will be 4,000 meters with a total capacity of 4.5 million TEUs and each terminal can hold up to 1.5 million TEUs.
This first phase is expected to complete in the first quarter of 2014, while the further stage is expected to finish every 1-1.5 years after. The entire port, which is hoped to complete on 2023, will have a total capacity of 13 million TEUs.
New Priok Port is expected to facilitate big ships in the size of EEE Class with the capacity of 18,000 TEUs. With that, the container can be directly carried without transhipment.
IPC investment to build tagging, pier, and reclamation of the first stage of New Priok Port reaches two billion USD or 18.36 trillion IDR, while total investment for this project reached 22.68 trillion IDR or 2.47 billion USD.
