REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG – President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) on behalf of Indonesia said Syrian conflict should be contained to prevent the increasing number of the victims. “The horizontal conflict between the state and opposition is worrying. Last night I spoke with UN’s Secretary General Ban Ki-moon,” SBY said in the general lecture on geopolitical region in Bandung on Friday.
SBY said, Ban Ki-moon would hold a meeting in Geneva with the five permanent members of UN Security Council, to discuss about Syria.
“Indonesia thinks if the framework runs according to plan, UN will assign non-armed observers according to chapter six. Ceasefire will be good,” he said.
But, if the plan fail, Indonesia will propose Peace Keeping Force, aims to stop the war and conflict. “The force does not mean to topple President Bashar Al Assad,” he emphasized.
He reiterated that everyone including Arab League, OIC, and UN must find the solution to the conflict. He also had asked Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs Marty Natalegawa to communicate with Russian and US Minister for Foreign Affairs.
