REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAMBI - Harimau Kita Forum asked public to be aware of Sumatran tiger's trade via online. Secretary of Harimau Kita Forum, Iding Achmad Haidir said the sale likely used popular sites.
"Role of community is very important to protect the tigers from irresponsible people who sell whole or parts of tiger's body," Haidir said on Sunday.
Haidir explained through cooperation among various activists and observers of NGO as well as law enforcement agencies in 2011-2012, Harimau Kita Forum managed to secure at least 22 parts of tigers. Two of them were traded via online sites.
The tiger's online trading of tiger are hiden under the cover of sites selling antique goods and mammal which are not protected types. These sites offer some parts or even whole tiger body. In domestic market, each tiger's part is worth 1 to 2 million IDR or even higher in bigger size. The most expensive tiger part is worth 25 million IDR.
