REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The state-owned electricity company, PLN, has forecast that its gas supplies will increase in 2014, as compared to that in the previous year.
On Tuesday, Fuel and Gas Division Head of PLN Suryadi Mardjoeki stated here that in the year 2013, the gas supplies to PLN's power generators reached 410 trillion British thermal unit (TBTU) or 1,135 billion British thermal unit per day (BBTUD).
"This year, we have set a target of 431 TBTU or 1,200 BBTUD, which means that it will increase by 5.7 percent as compared to that in 2013," Suryadi noted.
He remarked that the gas supplies continued to increase. In 2012, the gas supplies to the PLN's power generators only reached 365 TBTU or 1,016 BBTUD.
Surayadi further added that in 2014, additional gas supplies, among others, will come from the Peluang Field in East Java, which is operated by Santos Indonesia.
"From April 2014, we hope to get some 15 - 25 million metric standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD)," Suryadi noted.
The gas from the Peluang field will be supplied to the PLN's Grati steam power generator (PLTGU) in Pasuruan, East Java.
The additional gas supplies will also be coming from the Gundih Field in Central Java, which is operated by PT Pertamina EP.
The Gundih field will supply 50 MMSCFD of gas to the PLTGU Tambaklorok of Semarang, Central Java, beginning February 2014.
The PLN is also optimistic that in the year 2014, its gas-powered electricity plant (PLTG) in Semberah, East Kalimantan, will also get additional gas allocation, amounting to 10 MMSCFD, from Vico Indonesia.
"But, it is still not certain. We hope it will be this year," he pointed out.
In the meantime, he added that the gas supplies from the Kepondang Field could not be channeled to the PLTGU Tambaklorok in 2014.
The government is keen that the gas supplies from Kepodang to Tambaklorok should begin by the end of 2014, Suryadi stated.
"But, it seems that the supplies of gas can only begin in March or in August 2015, at the latest," he noted.
