REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesia needs a special agency to tackle flood as the capital city, Jakarta, is inundated. The current agencies focus not only on floods in particular. Floods hit Jakarta every year, inflicted losses to social and economic aspects and paralyzed people's activities.

"We need an agency that really focuses on flood since the disaster is unpredictable," the Chairman of National Committee of Indonesian Youth (KNPI), Taufan EN Rotorasiko, said on Thursday.

Use any available resources

According to National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), the number of flood refugees in Jakarta until Thursday night mounts to 15,423 and most of them are from East Jakarta.

Meanwhile, spokesman of BNPB, Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, said on Thursday that government, through National Post of Flood Mitigation would use any available resources to help the flood victims. The National Post helps Jakarta Government to provide food, sanitation, water pumps, and the involvement of police and armed forces.
