Govt provides two trillion IDR for flood prevention project

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government will provide at least two trillion IDR for flood prevention project to build waterway in Ciliwung River. The project, connecting Ciliwung River and East Flood Canal, will start this year..

At a emergency meeting in an evacuation point in East Jakarta on Sunday, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono said the flood caused by the water flowing only to the West Flood Canal, while the East Flood Canal was relatively empty.  "Water must flow evenly in both canals," SBY said.

The president predicted the 500 billion IDR waterway project to be completed in 2014. The project also includes the restoring Ciliwung River program. As for this project, the government provides 1.2 trillion IDR to relocate inhabitants living on the bank of Ciliwung River.
