REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - A Presidential Staff on Social Aid and Disaster, Andi Arief, commented on a rumor that says Jakarta will sink on January 27.

"It will be inundated, not drown," he said on Thursday.

He explained that regions located five meters above sea level, such as Monas, Menteng, Tanah Abang, Senen and Cempaka would not be affected by the tide. Dark cloud has started to form in several areas in Jakarta on Thursday, he said.

A flood victim who lives in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, Lilis Jumaliah, is worried about the high tide on January 25-27. "It could reach a meter," she said.

This is not the first time her house affected by floods but she never wants to leave the house. "But once the water level is higher than our chest, we may leave," she said.
