REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Provincial government of Jakarta and Indonesian Army will take firm action against people who dumps garbage into Ciliwung River. Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo or Jokowi ordered his officers and the Army to arrest them.
City government and military will form patrolling team along Ciliwung River. There will be one team to patrol everyday and prevent residents who want to throw trash into the river.
"Residents who caught red handed will be arrested to stop them from doing that (waste to the river -ed)," Jokowi said on Thursday.
There are about 1,000 Army personnels will be deployed as part of their social resposibility programs. Chief of Army, Moeldoko said that same thing were previously conducted in Pontianak (West Kalimantan) and Surabaya (East Java).
Moeldoko regretted lack of public awareness to conserve Ciliwung River. Unlike in Jakarta where river became a threat to public life, he said, river had various purposes abroad including in security sector.
