REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Chairman of United Development Party (PPP), Suryadharma Ali openly throws his support to Gerindra Party presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto.
"I persistently support Prabowo (Subianto, Ed)," Ali said, during his visit to Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) office.
Ali added that nobody within his party criticized his support. He claimed that his stance towards Subianto had been appreciated by some senior patron figures of PPP. Earlier, his initiative to attend Gerindra's campaign drew criticism from his party which led to internal conflict.
PPP will decide its support for coalition during a national convention to be held next week. Ali admitted that the party's support for coalition were still divided into three candidates namely Subianto, Joko Widodo or Aburizal Bakrie.
Gerindra party gained 11 percent of votes in general election last month. The party needs to form a coalition with other parties to meet the 25 percent threshold to nominate a presidential candidate. While PPP got about six percent of votes.
