REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MAKASSAR -- Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Greg Moriaty has said South Sulawesi Province has great potential for establishing trade cooperation with his country.
"South Sulawesi has good potential for developing cooperation in various fields, particularly in the trade sector, because the province has been involved in trade activities with other countries for a long time ago," Moriarty stated here on Friday, Oct 31.
The Ambassador delivered the speech during his meeting with South Sulawesi Governor Syahrul Yasin Limpo in Makassar.
The Australian government through its aid program AusAID has established cooperation in various sectors in a number of regions in South Sulawesi Province.
Besides this, nine programs, including providing financial assistance for constructing sanitation facilities, mother and child care programs, and educational infrastructure, have been carried out in cooperation between Australia and the South Sulawesi Administration.
The AusAID has allocated up to USD240 million for sanitation programs. Each hamlet receiving the grant will get RP2 billion to construct an integrated sanitation facility.
During his visit to the region, Moriarty met with several alumni of Australian educational institutions.
"We will visit the project site where a pipeline installation work for fresh water supply is under progress in Kalabbirang Village of Bantimurung Sub-district, Maros District, on Saturday," Moriarty noted.
He added that the joint health program was an effort to help the local administration achieve UN Millennium Development Goals in 2015.
The integrated sanitation project will be developed in Makassar City, particularly in areas such as Manggala, Rappokalling, Pannambungan, and Kassi-kassi, in early 2015.
