REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) on Wednesday summoned former lawmaker to testify in a corruption case in the Religious Affairs Ministry.

Nurul Iman Mustofa, a former member of the Commission VIII of the Parliament from the Democrat faction, was questioned over a corruption case in the Religious Affairs Ministry.

"He is investigated as a witness in the case with former religious Affairs Minister Suryadharma Ali as the suspect," KPK spokesman Priharsa Nugraha said here on Wednesday.

Nurul Iman Mustofa was already investigated last week for the same case.

Nurul and Suryadharma's wife Wardatul Asriah and four other law makers including Gondo Radityo Gambiro, Muhammad Baghowi, Ratu Siti Romlah and Hasrul Azwar from Commission VIII are banned from leaving the country by KPK.

Suryadharma is charged with corruption in the transport and accommodation of haj pilgrims involving Rp1 trillion fund belonging to hajj pilgrims in 2012-2013.

Suryadharma is also charged with abusing his power by using the hajj quota for himself, relatives and friends at the expense of people who have been waiting for years to get their turn.

The former general chairman of the Islamic United Development Party (PPP)is facing a sentence of 20 years' imprisonment with a fine of Rp1 billion if found guilty.

Suryadharma is seeking a pretrial motion challenging the KPK charge.
