REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Chinese government, through Deputy Prime Minister Liu Yandong, has launched a Mandarin language television station in Indonesia named "Hi-Indo!"
"This is based on one of the cooperation agreements marking the mechanism of exchange between Chinese and Indonesian citizens," Liu said in a written statement received here on Thursday.
Liu has been in Indonesia since Tuesday for a state visit upon the invitation of Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani.
Hi-Indo! will be operated on the basis of the cooperation agreement between China International Television Corporation and PT Elnet Media Bersama.
Liu stated that the target audience of the television programs includes intellectuals, businesspeople and the younger generation, with education, science and technology, culture, health, sports, media and youth being the focus.
She hopes the television station facilitates and deepens relations between Indonesian and Chinese citizens.
Hi-Indo! will be packaged as a typical modern international television channel through editing and will translate broadcasts into the Indonesian language.
The content of the television programs will include drama, films, documentaries, animation, children's programs, entertainment and lessons for Mandarin language.
In addition, there will also be oriental cultural programs, Chinese traditional stories and multi-cultural programs.
Hi-Indo! conducted a trial broadcast in April 2015 through Palapa-D satellite, which telecasts programs to all Southeast Asian countries.
