REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Elections Supervisory Board (Bawaslu) said local elections in West Java and Central Sulawesi were prone to the practice of money politics. It was stated by Bawaslu, based on a vulnerability index mapping of local election in 2015.
"Money politics can be done with a variety of way. Based on the findings, West Java and Central Sulawesi were the most prone to money politics," said Commissioner of Bawaslu, Daniel Zuhron, in Jakarta, Tuesday (1/9).
Daniel said voters who close with the head region candidates possibly get massive money politics, including the factor of large number of poverty in that region.
Bawaslu stated that Vulnerability Index Data of local election 2015 was obtained through monitoring results. The data was also retrieved from Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS), Data Potential Village, General Election Commission (KPU), and Honorary Council Election (DKPP).
Bawaslu classified the vulnerability index election in several points, among others, 0 to 1 (very safe), 1 to 2 (safe), 2.1 to 3 (quite prone), 3.1 to 4 (prone), and 4.1 to 5 (very prone).
In the case of money politics, Central Sulawesi and West Java earned 3.5 points and 3.3 points or were categorized as prone. Meanwhile, Banten, North Kalimantan, and West Nusa Tenggara earned 3.0 points or categorized as quite prone.
Several province that were safe from money politics, among others, Bali (1.6 points), South Kalimantan (1.9 points), East Kalimantan (1.7 points), Bangka Belitung (1.4 points), Lampung (1.6 points), North Maluku (1.7 points), West Papua (1.7 points), and Riau (1.9 points).
