REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno LP Marsudi held bilateral talks with her Tajik counterpart, Aslov Sirodjidin Muhridinovich, on the sidelines of the fifth Extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit here on Sunday.
During the bilateral talks, the two foreign ministers discussed the Tajik president's plan to visit Indonesia and the Tajik government's plan to appoint its non-resident ambassador to Indonesia this year.
They also discussed cooperation to address common challenges, particularly transnational crimes, including terrorism and drug trafficking.
"We underscored the importance of cementing cooperation in dealing with drug trafficking and in enhancing disaster mitigation management," Minister Retno said.
Among the areas of economic cooperation the two countries will step up is investment, she said.
"Tajikistan has invited Indonesian investors to invest in cotton processing and aluminium industries," she said.
At the meeting, Indonesia also tried to find the Tajik market for its products, particularly textiles, furniture, electronics, tea and leather products.
The two ministers also discussed efforts to encourage closer cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries, and mutual support cooperation in international forums.
On the Palestinian issue, the two ministers discussed how to encourage OIC member states to support the creation of an independent Palestinian state and the settlement of Jerusalem issue.
Both ministers underscored the need for OIC member states to play a greater role in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process.
