REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Governor of Jakarta, Joko Widodo (a.k.a Jokowi) officially started Kota Tua (the Old Twon) revitalization program on Thursday. The inauguration was held with the opening of Jakarta Contemporary Art Space at Fatahillah Museum. Jokowi admitted that he had long observed Kota Tua.
"I decided to begin the revitalization this year," Jokowi said recently as reported by Halimatus Sa'diyah.
Former Mayor of Solo said that Kota Tua was a cultural and historical heritage enormous. Therefore, government must give serious attention to the region, which has 28 hectares of lands.
China and Russia are examples of countries that are very successful managing their old cities. Local government always allocated at least 3.5 trillion IDR as budget to maintain old buildings. The buildings are always full of tourists every holiday.
Revitalization team consists of local government, private companies and also individual. This program will be completed within five years.
