VIVA – Billboard Music Awards 2022 baru saja selesai digelar, Minggu, 15 Mei 2022 waktu Amerika Serikat. Tahun ini, mereka menganugerahkan piala dalam 64 kategori. Olivia Rodrigo mendominasi dengan tujuh kemenangan, diikuti oleh Kanye West dan Drake, masing-masing memenangkan enam dan lima piala.
Pelantun lagu Good 4 U itu dinobatkan sebagai Top New Artist dan Top Female Artist of the year. Dia juga memenangkan Top Hot 100 Artist, Top Streaming Songs Artist, Top Radio Songs Artist dan Top Billboard Global 200 Artist. Sementara album studio debutnya, Sour terpilih sebagai Top Billboard 200 Album.
Drake meraih penghargaan terbesar malam itu, Top Artist dan mengalahkan Rodrigo, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift dan The Weeknd. Dia juga mengantongi Top Male Artist, Top Rap Artist, Top Rap Male Artist dan Top Rap Album untuk Certified Lover Boy.
Sementara itu, Kanye atau Ye berkembang pesat dalam kategori Gospel dan Christian, berkat albumnya, Donda, yang terpilih sebagai Top Christian Album dan Top Gospel Album. Ia juga dinobatkan sebagai Top Christian Artist dan Top Gospel Artist. Sedangkan lagunya, Hurricane terpilih sebagai Top Christian Song dan Top Gospel Song.
Taylor Swift juga menang di beberapa kategori Country, berkat albumnya yang direkam ulang Red (Taylor's Version), yang diganjar piala Top Country Album. Dia juga memenangkan Top Country Artist, Top Country Female Artist dan Top Billboard 200 Artist.
Grup K-Pop dan sensasi global BTS (Bangtan Boys) juga mencetak beberapa hadiah setelah mendapatkan nominasi terbanyak dari duo/grup mana pun dalam sejarah BBMA dengan tujuh piala. Tujuh lagu memenangkan Top Duo/Group, Top Song Sales Artist dan Top Selling Song untuk hit mereka Butter.
Artis lain yang memenangkan banyak penghargaan antara lain The Kid Laroi dan Justin Bieber, Doja Cat dan Bad Bunny. Sementara itu, The Weeknd yang mendapat nominasi terbanyak dengan 17 nominasi, hanya membawa pulang satu hadiah, yaitu Top R&B Male Artist.
Mary J. Blige dianugerahi Icon Award, dengan aktivis berusia 14 tahun Mari Copeny, yang terkenal karena meningkatkan kesadaran tentang krisis air Flint, mendapat penghargaan Changemaker Award.
P. Diddy menjadi pembawa acara perhelatan yang diadakan di MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas itu.
