REPUBLICA.CO.ID, PARIS -- Indonesia's flagship male weightlifter Eko Yuli Irawan apologized to all Indonesians for not being able to present a medal at the 61 kg weightlifting event of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at South Paris Arena 6 on Wednesday (7/8/2024) local time. Eko admitted to being hampered by the injuries he sustained.
“I apologize to all Indonesians for not being able to give a medal. But I have tried to expend all my abilities until the last blood point,” Eko said in a press release from the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) received in Jakarta on Wednesday.
At the time of three trials of the snatch force, Eko failed in the first batch of 135kg, then succeeded in the second batch of 135kg. In the third force, Eko who raised the force to 139kg again failed.
Eko also failed in three trials of the 162kg clean and jerk force. Even on the third try, Eko briefly fell after failing to lift and immediately took hold of his right side thigh.
Eko said that she appeared to be in a state of health that was not 100 percent excellent because my leg injury has not healed completely.
“The knee is from last year, if the right side thigh was only one month ago,” he said.
Regarding Eko's condition, Indonesian team doctor Andhika Raspati revealed that Eko's injury condition is not too severe. He made sure Eko was in good shape despite being seen walking limping after performing at the arena.
“Earlier Eko said that there is indeed a problem in the right side thigh, it has been about a month ago. He was offered to be taken by ambulance but Eko didn't want to. His condition is not that severe, he can still walk,” he said.
