REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Agency for the Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and National Board of Disaster Management (BNPB) in cooperation with Indonesian Air Force will apply technology to control weather. The technology, Weather Modification Technology (TMC), aims to decrease the intensity of rain in Jakarta.
"TMC is a part of flood emergency responses," the Head of BPPT, Marzan Azis Iskandar, said on Saturday during the launching of TMC in Halim Perdanakusuma Airport.
TMC is working by seeding the cloud in upstream area using sodium chloride (salt). This measure will make the rain pouring outside Jakarta and reduce the rain intensity in Jakarta by 30 percent.
Iskandar predicted that Jakarta might be affected by heavy floods if high-intensity rain fell along with high tide. Rainy season in Indonesia may occur from mid January to mid February.
