REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Disadvantaged Regions and Transmigration Minister Marwan Jafar reminded village heads that they should warn their respective regions to stay alert during the rainy season in case any disaster occurs.

"We have instructed village heads in regions prone to disasters to be prepared to mitigate them and their impact," Jafar said here on Tuesday.

He pointed out that village heads should build crisis centers to provide shelter to villagers and also stock supplies and equipment for disaster and post-disaster emergencies.

These preparations should be made as early as possible so people are ready before any calamity strikes.

"Financing post-disaster and other activities can be discussed with villagers and added to the village fund as it is a necessity for their safety," he explained.

Jafar further noted that village officials should protect and save assets from the impact of disasters, including documents, vehicles, and buildings, among others.

Also, village funds could be allocated to help those affected by the disaster through community empowerment programs to accelerate economic recovery, he observed.
