Cold lava flood hits seven rivers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Cold lava floods seven rivers that flow from Mount Merapi, Central Java, on Saturday. The rivers are Kali Pabelan, Blongkeng, Putih, Batang, Lamat, Krasak, dan Bebeng.

The Head of Data, Information and Public Relation of National Agency for Disaster Management (BNPB) Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on Sunday, two 70 meter crocks made to prevent the flood in the east Nabin, Gulon, Salam and in Surodadi, Sawangan, were floated because of the flood. And at least one house collapses and ten others damage by the lava flood.

Nugroho added, early warning system to prevent cold lava flood in BNPB and Geology Center in the Volcanic Technology Development and Research Center (BPPTK) worked well. Should there be any threat, people can evacuate early before the cold lava come. “Until now, BPBD, SAR, army, and volunteers are still in the location,” he said.
