REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TERNATE -- The Tidore city administration in Tidore Islands, North Maluku, will soon develop the Tugurufa beach into a culinary tourism site, considered a vital component of the tourism experience.
Effort to turn Tugurufa beach into a culinary tourism site is important as every tourist eats at least three times a day, making food be one of the fundamental economic drivers of tourism.
Asrul Sani Soleman, the chief of Tidore Culture and Tourism Office, remarked in Ternate recently that the culinary tourism site along the Tugurufa beach will increase the diversity of tourist attractions in Tidore Islands.
"The development of Tugurufa beach into a culinary tourism site is part of an effort to provide the local community with the business of creative economy," Soleman said.
According to him, tourists visiting the culinary tourism site along the beach will be able to enjoy a variety of unique culinary from Tidore in particular, and North Maluku in general.
The Indonesian province of North Maluku is made up of many islands with different types of typical food that spoil the tongue of every visitor who sample the dishes such as fish gohu, gatang kenari, grilled fish, and papeda, among others.
Fish gohu is made from yellow tuna fish, cut in small size, washed, and greased with salt and lemon juice, then mixed with coarse sliced of basil leaves.
Talking about Ternate and North Maluku culinary, most people will immediately think of gatang kenari with crab as the main ingredient.
Although crabs are listed as protected wildlife, some restaurants in Ternate get special permission to serve cuisine from crabs for the sake of tourism needs.
Papeda is kind of food which is made from sago flour, and served with special sauce such as yellow fish gravy and baked or fried fish.
Although it can be mixed with other menu, papeda more often come with yellow fish soup. This mixture is the right combination and becomes penchant for many people.
Further, Soleman added that tourists visiting the Tugurufa beach will get their own sensation because in addition to enjoying the culinary flavors typical of Tidore islands, they will also be pampered with the beauty of the beach and the expense of the ocean.
Situated at the outskirt of Tidore city center, Tugurufa beach became the venue of a cultural festival on March 9, 2016 to entertain more than 500 foreign tourists, including scientists, who came to witness the natural phenomenon of total solar eclipse.
Asrul Sani Soleman said Tidore Islands City Government will also develop a number of other attractions in Kota Tidore Islands, particularly in terms of infrastructure development to provide comfort to the tourists who visit.
